Flemington Race 3: Queen's Cup 2600m

6/11/2015: Melbourne Cup winning trainer Darren Weir produces Dandino here and although winless in 7 Australian starts looks really well placed here to finally break through. Dandino has been close up in his last 3 runs at Group 1 level and easily beat the rest of the field home when runner up in the Group 3 Geelong Cup. Getting on in years but recent form suggests he still has enough fire power left to win this. Secret Number is the x factor here and any market moves could prove significant. From one of the world’s most powerful stables this lightly raced 6yo although coming off an awkward break looks to have the arsenal to prove a big threat in this. Beaten Up was just that when disappointingly unplaced as favourite last tie but start prior was runner up in the Group 1 Metropolitan. From the all-conquering Waller camp and can easily atone here with the right run. Bold Sniper put in a shocker this track and distance two runs back but performed much better last time when 4th in the Moonee Valley Cup. Drops in grade here and shouldn’t be too far off the mark at the business end.

Front Runners (6) Bonfire.
On Pacers (5) Secret Number, (3) Don Doremo.
Mid Fielders (1) Beaten Up, (8) Bold Sniper, (7) Manndawi.
Get Back (4) Dandino, (2) Like A Carousel.
PACE COMMENTS Small field here should see them slot into their respective in running positions fairly quickly. Bonfire from what we know looks certain to lead here with the only other detectable early speed coming from Secret Number and Don Doremo. These factors all point to a moderate overall tempo which won't do backmarker and fancied candidate Dandino any favours, however it will be offset to fair degree by the small field.
