Flemington Race 7: Emirates Melbourne Cup 3200m

0 /11/2015: Certainly no value at the price (unless you got on early) but with clear sailing in the straight Japanese runner Fame Game is the one they'll all have to get over. Great and somewhat controversial trial in the Caulfield Cup where stewards queried both the ride and the intentions after Fame Game charged late from near last on the turn to run 6th. Has won twice over 3400m so should relish both the step up in distance and also the more expansive Flemington track. There seems to be a sense of timing about the Geelong Cup winner Almoonqith who powered away to defeat Dandino. Melbourne Cup winners Media Puzzle, Americain and Dunaden all won the Geelong Cup prior to the big race with another winner Bauer beaten a nose by Viewed. This Hayes trained runner has won up to 2800m but looks like he'll handle the extra distance required. Criterion ran a cracker when runner up in the Cox plate behind super mare Winx and would have finished closer bar for interference. Query over the distance but should get smothered up on the rail and carried along with a hopeful out coming in the straight. Preferment is unbeaten in two runs this track and although not tested beyond 2500m gives the impression he'll stay all day. Has the services of a red hot Hugh Bowman and rates highly. Trip To Paris was runner up inn the Caulfield Cup and has won up to 4023m so is another who should relish the distance spike. Harder here from wider gate as he hugged the rails last time and never went around a runner, but should be right in the thick of things again with the right run. Could easily make a case for at least another half dozen runners as is the case most years. View race stats on our Emirates Melbourne Cup 2015 Odds Fluctuations page.

PACE COMMENTS Big Orange has led more times than any other runner engaged here and is expected to eventually work across from a very wide gate and take it up. No surprise however if any of the large contingent of on pace runners kicks up and holds the inside running. Of the Internationals Max Dynamite draws perfect for his racing pattern as too does Sky Hunter. Criterion draws well and should get a ground saving run on the fence behind the pace brigade. Fame Game draws the middle but is most likely to settle in the 2nd half of the field as will probably be the case with Preferment. Trip To Paris had rails running last time but will find it hard to wind up there again from gate 14. Pace is expected to be genuine.
